Early Life and Education- In 1959, graduated from the Kalinin Institute of Foreign Languages
- Worked as a teacher in an evening school in Kostroma
- Dedicated spare time to studying the artistic culture of Kostroma
- 1964: Entered the correspondence course at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture
- 1970: Completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Art History under the Ministry of Culture of the USSR

Doctoral Dissertation- Topic: "Kostroma Stone Architecture of the 17th Century: Its Characteristics and Development"

- 1970: Appointed as Senior Research Fellow at the Kostroma Special Scientific Restoration and Production Workshop
- Studied architecture as well as ancient Russian painting, both monumental and easel
