Early Life and Mormon Influence

Ezekiel Ansah was born in Accra, Ghana, to a fuel company manager father and a nurse mother. From a young age, he was involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which played a significant role in his athletic aspirations. After graduating high school, Ansah's football ambitions were initially met with rejections in Ghana.

Introduction to American Football

However, a church missionary recognized Ansah's towering height and muscular physique and suggested he try American football as a defensive lineman. Within a year, Ansah earned a scholarship to Brigham Young University, the largest Mormon university in the United States. Despite being a huge fan of LeBron James, Ansah's attempts to join the BYU basketball team proved unsuccessful.

Early Success in Football

Undeterred, Ansah turned his focus to football, despite being unfamiliar with the rules. His physical attributes gave him an advantage, but he faced challenges being surrounded by players immersed in the sport from childhood. Nevertheless, in his first game, Ansah recorded a block and disrupted an opponent's play. He made five more appearances in his freshman year, intercepting passes and anticipating opponents' moves.

Emergence as a Standout Defensive End

Ansah's talent blossomed in his junior season, when he replaced an injured teammate and performed exceptionally in nine consecutive games. As a quick and intelligent defender, he predicted opponents' plans and held his own against larger adversaries. He finished the season with 48 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss, ranking third on the team. Ansah also placed among the top five in several other statistical categories.

Senior Bowl Performance and Draft Interest

In his final college season, Ansah went undrafted in 2012. However, his standout performance in the Senior Bowl game caught the attention of American football enthusiasts. The Detroit Lions emerged as a potential suitor, but no official contract has yet been announced.
