Biography of Fyodor Fyodorovich Voroponov

Fyodor Fyodorovich Voroponov, a journalist and publicist, was born in 1839 in the Kherson Governorate. He is known for his numerous articles in journals and newspapers that focused on internal issues related to peasant economy, land ownership, peasant taxes, and resettlement.

Journalistic Career

Voroponov's articles stood out for their practical knowledge of life, which was influenced by his professional activities. He served as a magistrate mediator, chairman of the magistrates' congress, and a member of the council of the Peasant Land Bank. Currently, he holds the position of government director of the Vladikavkaz Railway. In terms of journalism, Voroponov was closely associated with V.F. Korsh's "Petersburg Gazette" and later with M.M. Stasyulevich's "Order," as well as the journals "Herald of Europe" and "Word."

Advocacy for Reforms

Voroponov was one of the first to raise the issue of peasant resettlement ("Herald of Europe," January 1876). He expressed support for the tax reform that took place in the 1880s as early as 1878 and 1879, discussing aspects that are still awaiting implementation, such as the need to give significant importance to land taxes, which, despite the agricultural nature of our country, do not play a serious role. Voroponov also persistently emphasized the necessity for the government to organize land credit to assist peasants in land purchase ("Word," June 1879; "Herald of Europe," October 1880).

Contributions to Literary Fund

Voroponov made significant contributions to the literary fund, serving as its treasurer for many years in a row. He worked tirelessly to support literary endeavors and promote cultural development.
