Birth and FamilyFeodosy Artemyevich Smolyachkov was born on July 12, 1923, in the village of Podgorye, Bykhov District, Mogilev Oblast, Belarus. Raised in a peasant family, he completed six grades of school before moving to Leningrad and enrolling in an industrial training school.
Young Builder and Wartime Aspirations
As a young man, Smolyachkov worked as a bricklayer in Leningrad. When the Great Patriotic War broke out on June 22, 1941, he eagerly volunteered for military service. Initially rejected due to his young age, he persisted and eventually joined the Vyborg District People's Militia on July 5, 1941.
A Battle-Hardened Sniper
Joining the Reconnaissance UnitSmolyachkov's initial role as a cook in the militia proved unsatisfying. He sought combat experience and was transferred to the 14th Separate Motorized Rifle Reconnaissance Company of the 13th Rifle Division.
Sniper's Instincts and the First Kills
