Early Life and Education
Filomena Tassi, a Canadian politician and government official, was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. She is of Italian descent.
Tassi obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and practiced corporate law for six years. She subsequently left the legal profession to pursue studies in philosophy and religious education at the University of St. Jerome's (affiliated with the University of Waterloo), earning a Bachelor's degree in 1983. In 2004, she received her Master's degree from St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto.
Career as Educator and Chaplain
Tassi dedicated 20 years of her career to serving as a school chaplain.
Entry into Politics
In 2015, Tassi was elected as a Liberal Member of Parliament for the electoral district of Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas.
Ministerial Roles
In 2018, Tassi was appointed as Minister for Seniors. She was re-elected to Parliament in 2019. In November of that year, she was named Minister of Labour by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Following the 2021 snap election, Tassi was sworn in as the Minister of Public Works and Procurement of Canada.
