Florent Amodio: A French Figure Skating Champion
Florent Amodio, a French figure skater, has had a successful career in the sport. Born in Brazil and adopted by a French family, he holds dual citizenship.
Early Life and Career
Amodio began skating at the age of four. His talent was recognized by coach Bernard Glesser, who worked with him until 2009. Amodio's career was interrupted for 18 months when he was 12 years old due to osteochondrosis in his knees. He made his international debut in the 2005-2006 season, competing in the Junior Grand Prix series.
Junior Success
In 2008, Amodio won the French Junior Championships and placed fourth at the senior level. The following season, he triumphed in the Junior Grand Prix Final and became French Junior Champion.
Senior Success
In the absence of Brian Joubert due to injury, Amodio won his first French Senior Championship in 2010. The 2010-2011 season was particularly successful for him, with third place at the NHK Trophy and second place at the Trophée Eric Bompard, qualifying him for the Grand Prix Final.
European Championship Title
At the 2011 European Championships, Amodio capitalized on errors by the leaders to take first place after the short program. Despite losing to Joubert in the free skate, his lead was enough to secure the title.
Later Career
Amodio announced his retirement from competitive skating in 2016. At the European Championships that year, he placed just off the podium after a strong performance in the free skate. Despite his retirement, he remains an influential figure in French skating.
