James Henry Johnson: A Pioneering Figure Skater

Partnership with Phyllis Squaire
In 1904, Johnson married Phyllis Squaire, a woman ten years his junior. The couple soon after teamed up for pair skating competitions. Their partnership proved to be highly successful.
Olympic and World Championship Medals
Johnson and Squaire made their mark on history at the 1908 London Olympics, where they earned a silver medal in pair skating. Their triumph continued the following year when they became world champions for the first time. They repeated their world title victory in 1912.

While Johnson excelled in pair skating, his achievements in singles skating were less notable. Despite his dedication, he never reached the same level of success as he did in pairs.
