Frances Ford Seymour Fonda was an American socialite who is best known as the second wife of actor Henry Fonda and the mother of actors Jane Fonda and Peter Fonda.
Early Life
Frances was born in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, to Eugene Ford Seymour and Sophie Mildred. According to Jane Fonda, her mother was sexually abused as a child.
Marriages
On January 10, 1931, Frances married George Tuttle Brokaw, a millionaire lawyer and sportsman who was the former husband of Clare Boothe Luce. They had one child together, Frances de Villers Brokaw (October 10, 1931 – March 10, 2008).
A year after her first husband's death, Frances married actor Henry Fonda on September 16, 1936, in New York City. The couple had met at Denham Film Studios in England while filming the movie Wings of the Morning (1937). They had two children together: Jane and Peter. Their marriage was reportedly unhappy.
