Francesco Antonioli: Italia's Legendary Goalkeeper

Early Career and Debut in Serie A

Born in Monza, Italy, Francesco Antonioli began his football journey with hometown club Monza. After two seasons in the first team, he caught the attention of AC Milan, who acquired him in 1987. Milan initially loaned Antonioli to Cesena and Modena before giving him his Serie A debut on April 18, 1992.

Despite his debut, Antonioli faced competition from legendary goalkeeper Sebastiano Rossi and was eventually loaned to Pisa. With Pisa, he experienced relegation to Serie C1. He then moved to Reggiana and Bologna, where he spent four years in Serie A.

Championship Triumph with Roma

In 1999, Antonioli joined AS Roma and played a pivotal role in their Serie A title victory of 2001. He left Roma in 2003 as a free agent and signed for Sampdoria.

In 2006, Antonioli returned to Bologna, where he made a significant contribution to the club's promotion to Serie A. He signed a new contract for a further season and helped Bologna avoid relegation. In 2009, he joined Cesena and retired in 2011 after playing his 600th match in the Italian league.
