In 1867, Cadell was commissioned by the South Australian government to explore the western shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria. During this expedition, he discovered the Blyth River and proved the navigability of the Roper River, opening up new trade routes and resources.
Trading in the Indian Ocean and Tragic Demise
Following his Gulf of Carpentaria exploration, Cadell engaged in commercial ventures in the Indian Ocean. However, his life took a tragic turn when he was killed by indigenous islanders on one of the Banda Islands.
