Biography of Frank Rommel

Frank Rommel, a German athlete, is a skeleton racer. He was born on July 30, 1984, in Oberhof, Germany. Rommel stands at a height of 180 cm and weighs 72 kg. He trains with two coaches, Andy Böhme and Frank Schwarz. Rommel participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He currently resides in Oberhof, Germany, and his favorite track is in St. Moritz.

Early Life and Introduction to Skeleton

Frank Rommel spent his childhood in a town near Oberhof, where there was a bobsled track. Many of his friends were involved in sliding sports, and Frank enjoyed watching skeleton racers. When he turned fourteen, he decided to give it a try himself. It was an incredible experience, and Rommel decided to continue pursuing the sport. However, it took many years of hard work and dedication to reach the top.

As a teenager, Frank Rommel also had a passion for handball and played table tennis. He has a younger brother who is a musician and also engages in sports for enjoyment. Their parents instilled an interest in sports through their own example.

Rise in Skeleton Racing

Frank Rommel began competing in skeleton in 1999 as a member of the "TSC Zella-Mehlis" club. In 2002, he was invited to join the national team. Making his debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Rommel achieved a modest result, finishing in 24th place.

In 2008, Frank Rommel claimed first place in the Altenberg World Cup, with a time of 1:57:41. He once again took first place at the third stage of the World Cup in Igls, Austria. At the World Championships held on the same track in Altenberg, Rommel secured a third-place finish and won a bronze medal. He considered it a "great season" for himself.

The following year, Rommel won World Cup stages in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Königssee, Germany, his home country. He also emerged as the European champion in St. Moritz. At the World Championships held in Lake Placid, USA, Rommel became a gold medalist in the team relay event.

The 2009-2010 season started off successfully for Frank Rommel, with a fourth-place finish in Park City and a World Cup victory in Lake Placid. His ultimate goal at that time was the Vancouver Olympics, where he aimed to put forth his best effort, especially since the Whistler track was one of his favorites.

Outside of Skeleton Racing

Frank Rommel has one hobby, as he states: skeleton racing. During the offseason, he attends business school, works at a bank, and trains in the evenings. Rommel plans to pursue a career in banking after retiring from his skeleton racing career.

Rommel's girlfriend, Julia Eichhorn, is also a German skeleton racer who shares his interests and passion for the sport.
