Early Life and Education

Friedrich Georg von Bunge(1791-1862) was a renowned German historian and scholar born in Livonia (present-day Latvia and Estonia). After studying at the University of Leipzig, he began his teaching career at a gymnasium in Breslau.

Academic Career at Prussian Universities

In 1821, von Bunge was appointed Professor of Ancient and Medieval History and Geography at the University of Halle, a prestigious institution in Prussia. He later moved to the University of Dorpat (present-day Tartu, Estonia) in 1828, where he served as Professor of History until 1853.

Major Works

Von Bunge's contributions to historical scholarship were substantial:
