Biography of Fanny van Dannen

Fanny van Dannen is a German bard, writer, and painter of Dutch origin. Born into a Dutch family, he grew up speaking the Limburg dialect. At the age of 18, just three months before obtaining his high school diploma, Fanny dropped out of school and moved to Berlin in 1978.

In Berlin, he became involved in various punk and jazz collectives and began exhibiting his paintings in 1980, with aspirations of becoming an artist. In 1984, Fanny co-founded Discount/Kaufhaus für Kunst with his wife. From 1987, he started performing his own songs, accompanied by his guitar, and writing his own lyrics in German.

In 1988, Fanny co-founded the collective Lassie Singers, but he left after a few months. In the following years, he supported himself by reading his stories in pubs until his book, "Spurt ins Glück," co-authored with Erich Maas, was published by Warnke & Maas in 1991. However, his achievements as a painter have not yet gained widespread recognition.

Most of Fanny van Dannen's albums are live recordings, featuring his bold, ironic, and satirical lyrics, as well as various love songs. He arranges his songs using only an acoustic guitar and occasionally a harmonica. Some of his work can be classified as chanson. In the studio albums "Herzscheiße" and "Nebelmaschine," he collaborated with Peter Pichler from the No-Goods-Band.

Since 1999, Fanny van Dannen has been involved in various songs with Die Toten Hosen.
