Childhood and Early Career

Born in Suresnes, France, Gaël Kakuta began his football journey at the Académie Lille-Moulins in 1998. His exceptional talent quickly caught the eye of RC Lens, where he joined their academy in 1999.

Rise through the Ranks at Lens

For the next eight years, Kakuta dedicated himself to his football development at Lens. His performances earned him recognition from top clubs around the world, leading to a transfer offer from Chelsea in 2007.

Chelsea and Loans

Kakuta spent two years at Chelsea's academy before making his first-team debut in 2009. To gain further experience, he was loaned out to Fulham in January 2011, where he made seven appearances and scored one goal.

After his stint at Fulham, Kakuta moved on loan to Bolton Wanderers and Dijon, playing for each club for half a season. At Dijon, he showcased his attacking prowess, scoring four goals in 14 matches.

Sevilla and International Career

In June 2015, Kakuta transferred to Sevilla for a fee of €6 million. He represented France at youth and U-21 levels from 2006 to 2013, making 60 appearances and scoring 15 goals. However, he has since expressed his desire to represent the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the international level.
