Early Life and Education
Israeli singer and Eurovision Song Contest winner Ofra Haza was born into a family of Yemenite descent. She grew up in a religious environment and attended a religious school.
Broadway Debut and Eurovision Success
In 1974, Haza embarked on a journey to the United States, where she spent a year as a backing vocalist on Broadway. In 1971 and 1976, she represented Israel at the World Popular Song Festival in Japan. After working as a flight attendant for El Al, Israel's national airline, she participated in the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1977. The following year, she triumphed, earning the top spot.
In 1979, at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Jerusalem, Haza, alongside the group Milk and Honey, performed the iconic song "Hallelujah" and emerged victorious.
Solo Career and Acting Accolades
Following her Eurovision triumph, Haza resumed her solo career, which has continued to this day. In 1978, she received the Israeli "Actress of the Year" award for her performance in the film "The Strip." Haza also played leading roles in films such as "Ha-Lahaka" and "Dizengoff 99" in 1979. Additionally, she appeared in the television series "The Azani Family" from 1998 to 1999.
