Childhood and Adolescence

On the momentous first day of 1955, the arrival of Galina Zhelnerovich brought double joy to her parents, Rodion and Elena. Her younger sister, Tamara, followed shortly after. Galina initially attended seven classes at a school in the Vileika district, and later relocated with her family to the village of Ryzhkovichi in 1968.

Their upbringing was marked by strict discipline and a love for literature. Galina's mother, a schoolteacher and vice-principal, instilled in her daughters a strong work ethic and moral values. Galina went on to graduate from the history faculty of the Mogilev Pedagogical Institute, while her sister opted for a career in pharmacy.

Personal Life

Galina's path crossed with her future husband, Alexander Lukashenko, during their school days. Their shared literary interests sparked a deep connection. As Galina recalls, Alexander attracted many admirers, but her youthful charm eventually won him over. Their courtship involved frequent walks between Alexandria and her home village.

After graduating from the same university, Galina and Alexander married in 1975, shortly after she completed her third year and he had already earned his diploma. The arrival of their first son, Viktor, in 1975 prompted a move to Mogilev, where they lived in a rented apartment.

Health issues plagued their young son until the couple, advised by an astute doctor, decided to move to a wooden house outside the city. Their efforts to strengthen Viktor's immune system through a more rustic lifestyle proved successful. Five years later, their family expanded with the birth of their second son, Dmitry.

Galina and Alexander have since become grandparents to seven children: four from Viktor (Viktoria, Alexander, Valeria, and Yaroslav) and three from Dmitry (Anastasia, Daria, and Aleksandra). Despite living separately, Galina and Alexander remain legally married.

Career

Galina's teaching aspirations were cut short when she prioritized her son's health. She briefly held a position as a schoolteacher in Mogilev before working as a kindergarten teacher. In 1998, she transitioned to a role in the Mogilev regional government, overseeing healthcare and organizing sanatorium treatments.

Current Status

Galina's recent whereabouts and activities remain largely unknown. As of mid-2020, the last news about her emerged in autumn of the previous year. She had buried her mother and relocated to a different residence. Local media report that she resides in a modest wooden house with access to a greenhouse and garden.
