Gary's Prostate Cancer Journey: Diagnosis and Treatment
In 2011, at the age of 61, Gary was diagnosed with Stage IIB prostate cancer. His initial blood tests revealed elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, prompting a biopsy and subsequent diagnosis.
Seeking Alternative Treatment at CTCA
Dissatisfied with his primary doctor's recommended surgical treatment, Gary's wife discovered the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). After a phone consultation, Gary arranged for a consultation at CTCA's Chicago facility.
Innovative Radiation Therapy and Holistic Care
Upon arriving at CTCA, Gary was impressed by the patient-centric approach and the use of advanced technology, including the Calypso 4D Radiation Localization System. He underwent 40 radiation therapy sessions over eight weeks. The treatment was effective and caused minimal side effects.
Finding Community and Purpose
During his time at CTCA, Gary connected with other patients and became a Cancer Fighters ambassador, offering support and advocacy to others. He credits the community he built with providing emotional and social healing.
Remission and Continued Care
Following treatment, Gary's subsequent PSA tests showed a decrease in cancer levels, indicating remission. He underwent hormonal therapy and continues to receive Lupron as part of his maintenance plan.
A Whole-Team Approach to Healing
Gary emphasizes that his successful outcome was due to the comprehensive team of medical professionals at CTCA. Every aspect of his care was closely monitored and coordinated.
Paying it Forward
Since his recovery, Gary and his wife have become active volunteers with the Cancer Fighter Care Net, supporting newly diagnosed patients and their families. Gary believes that helping others has given him a renewed sense of purpose.
The Transformative Power of Cancer Survivorship
Gary's cancer journey has transformed his perspective on life. He cherishes each day and finds fulfillment in his advocacy and support for others. He is a living testament to the power of hope, resilience, and the transformative nature of cancer survivorship.
