Early Life and Education
Born in Ukraine, Valeriy Vasylyovych Bakhtiyarov began his career at the Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Plant named after Petrovsky. He pursued higher education at the Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute from 1935 to 1940, specializing in iron metallurgy.
Military Service and Academic Career
Bakhtiyarov served in the Great Patriotic War and was demobilized in late 1946. Subsequently, he enrolled in the Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute's postgraduate program and obtained a doctorate in technical sciences in 1972.
Political Involvement
In 1951, Bakhtiyarov joined the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU). He held numerous leadership positions, including Deputy Minister of Higher Education of the Ukrainian SSR from 1955 to 1959 and Member of the Central Committee of the CPU from 1975 to 1985.
Achievements in Higher Education
Bakhtiyarov's tenure as Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Ukrainian SSR from 1973 to 1984 witnessed significant advancements. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Voroshilov Mining and Metallurgical Institute in 1957. In 1970, he was appointed Rector of the Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute.
Later Career and Recognition
After retiring from the Ministry, Bakhtiyarov became a professor at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1984, a position he still holds to this day. He has received numerous honors, including the Lenin Order, the Order of the October Revolution, and the Order of the Red Star. He is also recognized as a Merited Teacher of Ukraine.
