Biography of Georgi Fayvush
Georgi Fayvush is an Armenian scientist and a doctor of biological sciences. He has authored more than 50 scientific papers and co-authored the "Red Book of Armenia (Plants)". He is a member of the International Association of Plant Systematists, the Organization for Phytotaxonomic Studies in the Mediterranean Region, the International Organization of Plant Biosystematists, and the International Organization for Plant Information.
Early Life and Education
Georgi Fayvush was born in Ishimbay, where his father, Mark Fayvush, worked as an engineer. In 1965, his father was invited to work as the chief engineer for the construction of the Armenian Thermal Power Plant, and the family moved to Yerevan.
In 1970, Fayvush attended the 35th Secondary School in Yerevan. He then pursued his undergraduate studies at the Biological Faculty of Yerevan State University, specializing in higher plants. In 1983, he entered the graduate school and focused his research on the flora and vegetation of Shirak in the Armenian SSR.
Career and Contributions
After completing his doctorate in 1992, with a dissertation on the flora and vegetation of the Armenian steppes, Fayvush became the director of the Sunday Jewish School at the Jewish Community of Armenia. He also heads the Israeli Cultural Center in Yerevan and serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Jewish Community of Armenia.
Fayvush is actively involved in promoting Jewish culture in Armenia and lectures at the National University of Jewish Culture, where he also serves as the head. Besides his scientific work, he has a passion for comedy and was a participant in the KVN (Club of the Funny and Inventive) while studying at the university.
Georgi Fayvush's contributions to the field of biology, particularly in the study of plants and vegetation in Armenia, have earned him recognition both locally and internationally. His extensive research and dedication to science have solidified his position as a respected scientist in his field.
