Emine Çolak

Early Life and Education

Emine Çolak was born in 1977 and attended Türk Maarif Koleji for her secondary education. After receiving a Fulbright Scholarship, she studied at the University of Maine, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry in 1998. She then worked at Harvard Medical School and obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Cornell University in 2006.

Career in Science

Research and Academia

After her doctorate, Çolak worked at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York from 2006 to 2007. Upon her return to Cyprus, she co-founded and became a faculty member of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Near East University in Nicosia. In 2010, she established and directed the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at the Burhan Nalbantoğlu Hospital.

Political Career

Origins in the People's Party

Çolak played a key role in the establishment of the People's Party. She was elected to the party's first Central Executive Committee after its inaugural congress.

Healthcare Advocacy

Çolak has been vocal in her criticism of the state healthcare system and has proposed reforms to improve its quality.

Parliamentary Member

In the 2018 parliamentary elections, Çolak ran as a candidate for the People's Party, ranked fourth on the list. She was elected to the Assembly after the results were announced.
