Berik Imashev was born on May 11, 1953, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 1974, he graduated from the Karaganda Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kazakh SSR with a degree in jurisprudence.

From October 1, 1970, to June 2, 1990, Imashev served in the internal affairs organs, including 19 years and 6 months at the Karaganda Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR.
