Georgy Ivanovich Luntovsky: A Prominent Russian Financier
Early Life and EducationGeorgy Ivanovich Luntovsky was born in Kursk, Russia on April 12, 1950. He served in the Soviet Army from 1969 to 1971 before embarking on his financial career. Luntovsky graduated from the All-Union Correspondence Financial and Economic Institute in 1978 and the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation in 1997. He also holds a PhD in Economics.
Early Career
Luntovsky began his financial career in 1971 as an engineer with the Kursk Regional Office of Stroibank USSR. He held various roles within the organization, including credit inspector and head of the department for controlling the use of the wage fund in construction.
Leadership in the Banking Sector
In 1979, Luntovsky moved to the Baikal-Amur Constructions office of Stroibank USSR, where he served as deputy head of the department of financing and lending for contractors and manager of the Charsk branch. He later held leadership positions at the Voronezhvodstroy construction authority and the Voronezh branch of Gosbank USSR.
Prominence in Banking
From 1988 to 1991, Luntovsky was deputy head of the Voronezh Regional Office of Gosbank USSR, where he coordinated the activities of all banks in the region. He then served as head of the regional office of Promstroibank USSR before becoming chairman of the board of Voronezhkreditprombank in 1991.
Luntovsky's career continued to flourish in the early 1990s. He served as general director of the joint-stock commercial bank "Voronezh" from 1992 to 1996. During this period, he also entered politics, becoming a member of the State Duma of Russia from 1996 to 1999.
Appointment at the Central Bank of Russia
Luntovsky's expertise and leadership were recognized in 1999 when he was appointed deputy chairman of the Central Bank of Russia. He held this position until 2005, when he was elevated to the role of first deputy chairman. In this capacity, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Russia's monetary and financial policies.
