Biography of Gisèle Pascal
Gisèle Pascal is a renowned stylist with over thirty years of experience in the industry. Her makeup skills have impressed famous photographers, delighted fashion magazines, and left top models in awe. Her interests lie in beauty, kitsch, baroque, the play of colors, and magical fairy tales. Her creative biography is a story of growing talent and numerous encounters.
In 1980, when Pascal was just 20 years old, she left her hometown of Lyon along with her friend Anne Rogar to settle in the fashion capital of Paris and fulfill her long-standing dream of working as a stylist. Anne became a beloved model for the famous photographer Dominique Isserman and one of the top models of the 80s. Meanwhile, Pascal had the opportunity to meet many people from the beauty industry, from Serge Lutens (the artistic director of Shiseido) whom she assisted for two years, to Edith Remy, the "primadonna" of studio makeup. "I personally never made any decisions; everything just happened naturally," Pascal believes. However, professionals trust this delicate brunette with Lolita manners and a childlike gaze for a reason - she is incredibly talented. So much so that photographers grant her complete creative freedom.
Pascal has a great love for photographers. First and foremost, Dominique Isserman, with whom she has successfully collaborated for over a decade. "Working with Dominique is like magic. She tells me an extraordinary story in which I believe, and then I do my part, trying to reveal the personality of each model." Another favorite photographer of hers is Michael Woolley, an English dandy. And then there is Satoshi, an exceptional Japanese photographer who loves the style of the 60s and 70s, as well as many others such as Paolo Roversi, Friedemann Hauss, Pamela Hanson, Nigel Scott, Marcel Hartmann, or Michael Thompson. All of them are bright representatives of the new generation of photographers.
"I always remember models with warmth. They are extraordinary women! We understand each other perfectly. They trust me with their faces and don't interfere with my work. I am always in awe of these young women who have so much professionalism. Heather Stewart-Whyte, Claudia Schiffer, Amber Valletta, Shalom, Nadja Auermann - each of them is unique. I also highly appreciate newcomers like Nina Brosh, Michelle Begenne, and Mary Kullen." In short, Pascal Gisèle is in love with her profession. "This 'power over the face' is intoxicating. The atmosphere during the shoots is very intense. Everyone gives their all and is completely focused, and in the evening, it's all over! These girls are like Cinderellas, and makeup is ephemeral beauty."
Pascal wants all the women she sees on the street to participate in the pursuit of beauty. "I look at their faces and often tell myself: it takes so little for these faces to become truly beautiful. Just a touch of lipstick in a certain color, defined eyebrows, or accentuated cheekbones - how I wish I could give them useful advice!" But for now, Gisèle Pascal continues her career, which resembles a magical fairy tale.
