Gigi Hadid, full name Jelena Noura "Gigi" Hadid, was born on April 23, 1995, in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Mohamed Hadid, is a Palestinian-American multi-millionaire and owner of a construction company, while her mother, Yolanda Hadid, is a Dutch-American former model and interior designer. Gigi has a younger sister, Bella Hadid, who is also a model, as well as a younger brother, Anwar, and two half-sisters, Marielle and Alana, from her father's side. Her parents divorced and her mother remarried music producer David Foster. Gigi also has five step-sisters from her stepfather.

Gigi had her first taste of the modeling world at the age of two when she was discovered by designer Paul Marciano of Guess. She later returned to the fashion industry in 2011, working with Marciano again and becoming the face of Guess in 2012. She signed with IMG Models agency after moving to Los Angeles and made her debut at New York Fashion Week in February 2014, walking for Desigual. She appeared on the cover of CR Fashion Book in the same month. Gigi has since appeared on the covers of numerous international editions of Vogue, Schön!, Numéro, Allure, W Magazine, Teen Vogue, and many others.

In addition to her successful modeling career, Gigi has ventured into various collaborations and campaigns. Aside from her professional achievements, Gigi has been romantically linked with several celebrities. She dated Australian singer and actor Cody Simpson from 2013 to May 2015, followed by a five-month relationship with American singer and actor Joe Jonas in 2015. Since 2016 (or November 2015 according to some sources), Gigi has been in a relationship with singer Zayn Malik. The couple appeared together on the cover of Vogue in May 2016.

In 2016, Gigi revealed that she has Hashimoto's disease, a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the thyroid gland, which is caused by a partial genetic defect in the immune system.
