Gillian Jacobs is an American actress best known for her role as Britta Perry in the TV series "Community" and Mickey Dobbs in the series "Love". She has also appeared as Mimi-Rose Howard in the series "Girls" and starred in films such as "Gardens of the Night", "The Lookalike", and "Don't Think Twice".

Early Life and Education

Gillian MacLaren Jacobs (also spelled Gillian) was born on October 19, 1982, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Martina Magenau Jacobs, works at the Heinz College of Carnegie Mellon University, and her father, William Jacobs Jr., was an investment banker. Gillian grew up in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and has French, German, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. Her family owned the historic Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery, which was opened in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1847. Her grandfather, John Martin Magenau Sr., served as the president and CEO of the brewery until its closure in 1978.

Gillian began studying acting at the age of seven and attended acting classes on Saturdays at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. She performed with the Pittsburgh Public Theater and participated in the Public's Shakespeare Monologue Contest. It was through this contest that she landed the role of Titania, the queen of fairies, in the comedy play "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

After graduating from Mount Lebanon High School in 2000, Jacobs moved to New York City to attend the Juilliard School. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2004. On the big screen, she appeared in films like "Blackbird", "Choke", and "Gardens of the Night". She played the role of Dana in the thriller film "The Box" alongside Cameron Diaz and portrayed Samantha in the comedy-drama "Don't Think Twice". She also appeared in the comedy "Brother Nature".

Screen picked up the sixth season of "Community", which premiered on September 16, 2014.
