Gino Donè: The Italian Revolutionary

Early Life and Partisan Resistance

Gino Doné was born in Italy and became a committed revolutionary at a young age. During World War II, he joined the partisan movement in the Venetian lagoon region.

Emigration and Cuban Revolution

After the war, Donè moved to Canada and later to Cuba, where he adopted his mother's surname. In 1953, he met his Cuban-born wife and joined the revolutionary 26th of July Movement.

Military Training and Expedition

In 1954, Donè assisted in the secret transportation of Cuban youths to Mexico for revolutionary training. He became an integral part of the training program, sharing his guerrilla warfare experience. In 1956, he joined the expeditionary force that sailed on the yacht "Granma."

Combat and Leadership

As a lieutenant in the third platoon, Donè played a key role in the Cuban Revolution. After the disastrous landing at the Bay of Pigs, he returned to Santa Clara and organized sabotage operations alongside Aleyda March.

International Diplomacy

In 1957, Donè was sent abroad as a liaison to secure international support for the revolutionary cause.
