Born in Italy, this renowned author, journalist, and political figure played a significant role in the communist movement.
Early Political Involvement
From 1906 to 1921, he was a member of the Italian Socialist Party, later joining the Italian Communist Party (PCI) in 1921. He rose through the ranks, becoming a member of the PCI's Central Committee.
Exile in the Soviet Union
In the tumultuous years of 1930 to 1946, he sought refuge in the Soviet Union. Towards the end of his life, he returned to the USSR for medical treatment.
Literary Legacy: "Memorie di un Barbiere"
His critically acclaimed autobiographical novel, "Memorie di un Barbiere" ("A Barber's Memoirs"), published in 1930, gained widespread recognition. It was translated into Russian by the ZIF publishing house and into English by the "Co-operative Publishing Society of Foreign Workers" in 1934. In 1931, it was published in Italian in France with a preface by Palmiro Togliatti. The book was later reissued in Rome in 1962.
