Getty ultimately acknowledged the children, gave them his surname, and expressed his love for them.

Gordon Getty began his career working for his father's organization. When his father passed away in 1976, he inherited control of the family's billions. However, Getty soon sold the family's oil business for ten billion dollars and ranked 116th among the wealthiest Americans. He then became an investor, making substantial investments in the development of companies such as Gavin Newsom's PlumpJack Group, a winery in Napa Valley, the Squaw Valley hotel, and a retail store chain, among others.
