Biography of Gregor Seyffert
German dancer Gregor Seyffert has earned numerous international prizes and awards for his technical excellence and rare gift of personifying characters. Some of his accolades include the De Lausanne d'OR Grand Prix (Gold Medal) in 1986, the Best Partner Award at ballet competitions in Jackson (USA, 1994) and Varna (Bulgaria, 1994), the BENOIS DE LA DANSE Prize (1997), and the Dance Prize of German Critics in 2002. In 1999, Gregor Seyffert was honored with the title of Berlin Kammertanzer.
Dancing Career
Gregor Seyffert spent 13 years with the Komische Oper ballet company in Berlin, where he served as the first dancer and principal soloist. He performed leading roles in major classical and contemporary productions. His technical excellence and ability to embody characters earned him numerous international prizes and awards.
Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie
In 1996, Gregor Seyffert and his father, Ditmar Seyffert, founded the Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie troupe in Berlin. The troupe was invited by the Olympic Committee to present a cultural program for the Federal Republic of Germany at the Olympic Games in Atlanta (USA). They showcased their works "Puppet Theater" and "Divine Clown." Since then, Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie has embarked on television performances and world tours throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and Central America.
Artistic Director and Later Career
In 2002, Gregor Seyffert was appointed as the Artistic Director of the State Ballet School in Berlin. In recognition of his exceptional acting merits, he was awarded the German Dance Prize in March 2003. Starting from the 2004-2005 season, Gregor Seyffert was appointed as the new Artistic Director of Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie in Dessau, affiliated with the Anhalt Theatre.
Repertoire
Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie's performances have garnered international success. The ensemble consists of dancers, acrobats, actors, puppeteers, musicians, and singers, and their works represent a fusion of genres, which has become the artistic principle of the troupe. Led by their brilliant captain, they strive to achieve the genuine effect of Gesamtkunstwerk - the synthesis of arts and the total impact of their works, creating a festive and spectacular stage spectacle. Their repertoire includes "Puppet Theater" and "Divine Clown" based on the works of Heinrich Kleist (dedicated to Vaslav Nijinsky), as well as Gregor Seyffert's solo performance on the same theme. Other productions include "Landscape with Shadows" (a co-production with Lanonima Imperial, Barcelona), "The Seven Deadly Sins" and "New Orpheus" by Kurt Weill, "Paradise and the Beautiful Woman" set to the music of Robert Schumann (directed by Gregor Seyffert and Gottfried Helnwein), "Sleeping Beauty" by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (choreographed by Jan Linkens), and "The Little Prince" based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novel (directed by Gregor Seyffert).
