Origins and Early CareerGrétar Rafn Steinsson, born in 1982 in Akranes, Iceland, began his football journey with local club KS Siglufjörður. He later moved to Akranes, where he showcased his defensive prowess before making his international debut with Iceland in 2002.

During Iceland's friendly match against Brazil in March 2002, Steinsson substituted into the game and scored a remarkable goal just 17 minutes later, marking a significant moment in his international career.
Club Career in Europe
In 2004, Steinsson embarked on a European adventure, joining Young Boys in Switzerland. Two years later, he moved to the Netherlands to play for AZ Alkmaar. However, a proposed transfer to English club Middlesbrough in 2007 fell through due to financial disagreements between the clubs.
Premier League Success and Final Goal
Undeterred, Steinsson eventually joined Bolton Wanderers in January 2008 for £3.5 million. He made his debut against Newcastle United and scored his first Bolton goal against Stoke City. In 2011, he was given the number 2 shirt, becoming a key figure in the team's defense. Steinsson's final goal for Bolton came in 2012, a memorable strike against Liverpool that helped the Trotters to a 3-1 victory.
