Diplomatic Career of a Soviet Statesman
Early Life and EducationBorn into a Soviet family, the diplomat in question completed his education at the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies in 1930 and the Institute of Red Professors in 1938.
Entry into Diplomacy
After graduating in 1944, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NKI) as Deputy Head of the Middle East Department. His first diplomatic posting was as Ambassador to Iraq from 1944 to 1949.
Assignments in Western Europe and the Middle East
In 1949, he returned to Moscow as Deputy Head of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He then served as Ambassador to the Netherlands from 1949 to 1953.
From 1953 to 1956, he led the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Countries within the Foreign Ministry. In 1956, the department was renamed the Department of Near Eastern Countries, with him remaining as its head until 1958.
Return to Iraq and Iran
A second posting to Iraq followed as Ambassador from 1958 to 1961. He then returned to Moscow as Head of the Middle East Department once more. His final diplomatic assignment was as Ambassador to Iran from 1963 to 1967.
Later Years
Following his time in Iran, the diplomat served briefly as a staff member at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters in Moscow before retiring in 1969.
