Early Life and Career
Gudie Hutchings was born and raised in Corner Brook, Humber Valley, Newfoundland, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Prior to her political career, she worked in the tourism industry for three decades.
Tourism and Advocacy
Hutchings served as a member of the board of directors, vice-president, and president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Outfitters Association for ten years. She also played a role in the founding of the Canadian Federation of Outfitter Associations (CFOA). Additionally, she presided over the Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade (GCBBT) and was the managing director and chair of the board of the Battle Harbour Historic Trust.
Political Career
Hutchings entered politics in 2015, winning the federal election as a Liberal Party candidate in the riding of Long Range.
Parliamentary Roles
On December 2, 2015, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business and Tourism. Following the 2019 federal election, she was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development on December 12.
Minister of Rural Economic Development
On October 26, 2021, Hutchings was sworn in as Minister of Rural Economic Development in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet.
