Early Life and Political Career

During the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte, Étienne de Montbel held the position of Prefect. With the restoration of the monarchy, he became a prominent supporter of the Villele cabinet, playing a key role in election preparations.

Minister Under Polignac

Appointed Minister of Public Works in the Polignac cabinet, Montbel played a pivotal role in the signing of the infamous July Ordinances. However, as the July Revolution erupted, he managed to evade capture and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia.

Aftermath of the Revolution

After several years in exile, Montbel was eventually pardoned. However, his political influence had diminished, and he no longer played a significant role in French society.
