Early Life and Education

Vasily Petrovich Yegorov was born on January 27, 1908, in the village of Dubashishche, Smolensk Oblast, into a peasant family. In 1926, he moved to Saratov, where he began working as a mechanic in the Saratov locomotive depot and concurrently attended a trade school.

Railway Career

Yegorov's railway career began in 1928 at the Rtishchevo railway station, where he held various positions including mechanic, assistant engine driver, and deputy station manager. In 1934, he was transferred to the Penza station as deputy depot manager.

Military Service

From 1934 to 1937, Yegorov attended the Military Transport Academy. After graduating, he served as a road inspector for railway safety on the Kuibyshev and Belarusian railways.

Chief of the North Donetsk Railway

In December 1937, Yegorov was appointed chief of the North Donetsk Railway. In 1939, he was inducted into the Collegium of the People's Commissariat of Railways and assigned as chief of the Central Freight Department and then the Locomotive Department.

Deputy Minister of Railways

In May 1941, Yegorov became deputy minister of railways and chief inspector of the People's Commissariat of Railways for railway safety. In June of the same year, he was appointed as an NKPS representative for the Western Front. During a bombing raid near Vyazma in August 1941, Yegorov suffered severe head injuries.

WWII and Post-War Career

From 1942 to 1945, Yegorov served as a member of the Military Council of the Southwestern Front and as an NKPS representative for the front. He was then appointed chief of the Leninskaya Railway while retaining his rank as deputy minister of railways.

From 1944 to 1945, Yegorov served as chief of the Zapadnaya and Tomsk railways. In October 1945, he was transferred to Sverdlovsk, where he organized and headed the Ural-Siberian Railways District.

Permanent Representative and Chief of the Sverdlovsk Railway

In 1951, Yegorov was appointed permanent representative of the Ministry of Railways for the Ural and Siberian railways. From 1956 to 1972, he served as chief of the Sverdlovsk Railway. Yegorov was a member of the Sverdlovsk Oblast Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, a deputy of the Oblast Council of People's Deputies, and a delegate to three congresses of the CPSU.

Death and Legacy

Vasily Petrovich Yegorov died on October 16, 1986, in Sverdlovsk. He was buried at the Shirokorechensky Cemetery.
