Organist, Musicologist, and Educator
Childhood and EducationBorn and raised in Germany, the renowned organist, musicologist, pianist, and music educator pursued his musical education in Nuremberg and Frankfurt am Main. Seeking further refinement, he embarked on a transformative four-year journey in Paris (1968-1974), where he honed his skills under the esteemed tutelage of Marie-Claire Alain, Maurice Duruflé, and Jean Guillou.
Academic Appointments and Influence
In 1974, he was appointed to the organ class at the Würzburg University of Music, where he remains an influential figure to this day. Two years later, he expanded his teaching portfolio to include piano instruction. His academic career also included a stint at the Catholic University of America.
Recordings and Arrangements
As an accomplished organist, he has graced recordings with his renditions of Charles-Marie Widor's organ symphonies and Louis Vierne's fantasies, among other works. His contributions to the organ repertoire extend beyond performance to include a number of arrangements, notably Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" (1980).
Editorial and Consulting Work
His expertise extends to the realm of music scholarship, evidenced by his preparation of new editions of organ works by César Franck and Julius Reubke. Additionally, his profound knowledge and reputation in organ construction led to his involvement as a consultant for new organs in Würzburg, Waldsassen, and elsewhere.
