He subsequently graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the German Academy of Law and Political Science in Potsdam in 1955.

Political Career

Koziolek joined the Democratic Farmers' Party of Germany (DBD) in 1950. In 1967, he earned a doctorate in economics from Humboldt University.

He rose through the party ranks, serving as a member of the presidium (1977), secretary (1982-1984), and deputy chairman (1984-1987). From 1987 to 1990, he led the DBD as chairman. In 1990, he quit the party when it merged with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

In the GDR Government

Koziolek was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR (1980-1990). From 1987 to 1990, he served as deputy chairman of the Council of State and a member of the National Council of the National Front of the GDR.
