Early Life and Education

Ilse Aigner was born in Bad Aibling, Germany, in 1964. She completed her secondary education in 1981 and pursued a technical education in radio and television from 1985 to 1990. She worked in her parents' electrical business and later specialized in electrical systems for helicopters at Eurocopter Group.

Political Career

Bavarian Landtag

Aigner's political journey began in 1983 when she joined the Youth Union of Germany. She affiliated with the Christian Social Union (CSU) in 1985 and was elected to the CSU council in 1995. She served as a member of the Bavarian Landtag from 1994 to 1998 and was re-elected in 2013.

Federal Government

Aigner entered federal politics in 1998 as a member of the German Bundestag, where she remained until 2013. From 2008 to 2013, she held the position of Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection.

Bavarian Minister

After her federal tenure, Aigner returned to Bavaria and served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs, Media, Energy, and Technology from 2013 to 2018.

President of the Bavarian Landtag

In 2018, Aigner became the President of the Bavarian Landtag, a position she currently holds.
