Biography of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov
Early Life and EducationGurbanguly Myalikgulyevich Berdimuhamedov was born in 1957 in the village of Babarap, Geok-Tepe District, Ashgabat Oblast, Turkmen SSR. In 1979, he graduated from the dental faculty of the Turkmen State Medical Institute. He worked as a dentist in Ashgabat from 1979 until 1987. In 1987, he went to Moscow to pursue his postgraduate studies and received his candidate of medical sciences degree in 1990.

Career in Healthcare and Education
From 1990 to 1995, Berdimuhamedov held various positions at the Turkmen State Medical Institute, including assistant professor and dean of the dental faculty. In 1995, he became the director of the Dental Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. In 1997, he was appointed as the Minister of Health and Medical Industry. During his tenure, he also became the head of the International Medical Center named after Saparmurat Niyazov.

Career in Government
In 2001, Berdimuhamedov was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, responsible for healthcare, education, and science. In 2004, his responsibilities were expanded to include culture and media. In December 2006, he became the acting President of Turkmenistan, and in February 2007, he was elected as the President of the country.

Presidency and Achievements
As the President, Berdimuhamedov served as the head of government and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan. He was awarded the rank of Army General in 2008. During his presidency, he initiated several reforms, including the modernization of the economy and the promotion of democracy in the country. International Relations
