Early Life and Education
Born on December 10, 1952, in Agbulag, Armenia, Huseyn Ismayilov embarked on his academic journey in 1970 by enrolling in the philological faculty of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin. After his compulsory military service in 1975-1976, he continued his studies and graduated in 1986.
Academic and Research Career
In 1986, Ismayilov successfully defended his dissertation at the Nizami Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), earning his PhD in philology. From 1989 to 1997, he served as an associate professor at the Department of Azerbaijani Language at the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry named after M. Azizbekov.
Concurrently, Ismayilov held the position of deputy director at the "Folklore Palace," a scientific and cultural center within the Nizami Institute of Literature of ANAS from 1989 to 1995. Since 1998, he has been the director of the "Folklore Palace," which was later renamed the Institute of Folklore in 2003.
Research Contributions
Huseyn Ismayilov has authored over 200 scientific publications. His research focuses on the historical development of the ashugh art form and the folkloric characteristics of ancient Turkic and Azerbaijani beliefs. He has also made significant contributions to the study of the ideological and aesthetic foundations of folk poetry and the historical and poetic characteristics of epic genres.
