Saint Gwen

Early Life and Family

Saint Gwen, known as the "triple-breasted saint," was the wife of Saint Fragan and the mother of the twin saints, Jacut and Gwetenoc, as well as Saints Claire and Gwennolé. Together with her family, she fled from Wales to Armorique, escaping the Saxon invasion.

Refuge in Armorica

In Armorica, Gwen and her family found refuge in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, on the shores of the Gouet River. The location, later known as Ploufragan, became the site of several churches built by the saintly family.

Legacy and Veneration

Saint Gwen is recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church, with feast days on July 18 and October 3. Her epithet, "trimammae," refers to the three saintly male infants she nursed. Gwen is invoked for her protection and assistance in childbirth.

Prayer

"O noble exiles Fragan and Gwen who fled to Brittany in troubled times: ye established churches to God's praise and glory; your children brought joy and gladness to the Breton people. We praise you, glorious Saints."
