Hadia Tajik: A Trailblazing Politician
Early Life and EducationHadia Tajik was born in Norway to Pakistani immigrant parents. She earned a Bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Stavanger and later studied human rights at Kingston University in England. In 2012, she obtained a Master's degree in law from the University of Oslo.
Political Career
2006-2009: Political AdvisorTajik's political journey began as a political advisor to the Minister of Labour, Bjarne Håkon Hanssen, the Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, and the Minister of Justice, Knut Storberget.
2009-2013: Member of Parliament
In 2009, Tajik was elected to the Norwegian Parliament, representing Oslo. She served on the Parliament's Standing Committee on Education, Research, and Church Affairs.
2012-2013: Minister of Culture
On September 21, 2012, Tajik was appointed Minister of Culture in Jens Stoltenberg's center-left government. She became the youngest minister in Norwegian history at age 29 and the first Muslim to hold a government position.
2013-2021: Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party
After the 2013 election, Tajik returned to the Parliament. In 2015, she was elected Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, becoming one of the highest-ranking women in Norwegian politics.
2021-Present: Minister of Labour and Social Affairs
On October 14, 2021, Tajik was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, a position she currently holds.
Personal Life
Tajik married Christian Skard, a journalist, in 2021. They have a daughter, Sofia, who was born in 2021. Tajik's previous marriage to Stefan Heggelund, a Conservative Party politician, ended in 2016.
