Youth and Family
Hannah Quinlivan, affectionately known as Kun Ling, was born on August 12, 1993, in Taipei, Taiwan. Her mother was of Chinese-Korean descent, while her father was Australian. Quinlivan has an older half-sister from her mother's side and a younger half-brother from her father's side. She grew up in the Wanhua district of Taipei and attended Huang Jing High School.
Early Career
At the age of 15, Quinlivan's striking beauty and artistic talent led her to join the popular Taiwanese show "Blackie's Teenage Club." Concurrently, she pursued her interest in fashion and worked part-time at a clothing store. Aspiring to become an actress, Quinlivan traveled to the United States, where she completed an 8-week intensive program in filmmaking and acting at the New York Film Academy. She honed her acting skills through on-the-job training.
Modeling and Film Debut
Quinlivan's slender figure and petite frame initially landed her modeling roles. Subsequently, she ventured into music videos, which served as a stepping stone to the film industry. Her television debut came in 2012 with the romantic comedy series "Chocolat." She made her feature film debut in supporting roles in "Hear Me" (2012), "Gangster Payday" (2013), and "Legend of the Ancient Sword" (2014).
Breakthrough
Quinlivan's breakthrough came in 2018 when she was cast in the Hollywood action thriller "Skyscraper" alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In this role, she shed her previous image of innocence and played a skilled assassin. To prepare for the part, Quinlivan underwent rigorous training in shooting and stunts just a month after giving birth, and she cut her signature long hair.
Leading Roles
A year later, Quinlivan starred as the lead in the Chinese thriller "The Heavenly Fire," portraying a traumatized seismologist named Xiaomeng. She balanced her character's professional duty with a personal crisis amidst a raging catastrophe.
Personal Life
Quinlivan's unconventional upbringing fueled her skepticism towards love. She met her future husband, Jay Chou, a renowned Asian pop star, when she was in her early 20s. Despite their 13-year age difference, Chou's sincerity and maturity melted her heart. They married in 2015 and became parents to two children, daughter Hathaway in 2015 and son Romeo in 2017. Quinlivan has chosen not to publicly reveal her children's faces on social media, prioritizing their individuality.
Recent Work
Quinlivan continues to build her filmography. In 2022, she starred in the Chinese racing film "Fast & Furious: China Drift," playing the role of Lu Li Li. She has also appeared in the American crime thriller "Soul Assassin" alongside Bruce Willis, Mustafa Shakir, and Dominic Purcell.
