Lieutenant in the Prussian Army

Hans Hermann von Katte was born into a noble family in Brandenburg, Prussia. As a young man, he became a lieutenant in the Prussian army and forged a close friendship with Crown Prince Frederick, the future Frederick the Great.

Confidant to the Crown Prince

Despite King Frederick William I's disapproval, Von Katte emerged as a trusted confidant to the Crown Prince. He became deeply involved in Frederick's plans to flee Prussia after enduring his father's oppressive reign. Von Katte's unwavering loyalty propelled him to oversee all correspondence related to the escape plot.

Discovery and Execution

However, Frederick's escape plan was ultimately discovered by the king. Von Katte was arrested and put on trial by a military court. In a cruel twist of fate, he was sentenced to beheading in front of the Crown Prince's prison window in Küstrin. The execution took place on November 6, 1730, marking a tragic end to a life dedicated to friendship and the pursuit of freedom.
