Arnold Debus Lafitte
Early Life and EducationIn 1903, Arnold Debus Lafitte became a cellist in the Tonhalle Orchestra. In 1905, he enrolled at the Zurich Conservatory, where his teachers included Friedrich Hegar, Lothar Kempter, and Karl Attenhofer. In pursuit of further education, Lafitte traveled to the Cologne Conservatory in 1909 to enhance his piano skills.
Career as a Musician and Educator
Upon returning to Zurich, Lafitte directed various choral groups and served as musical director of the University of Zurich. From 1923 to 1959, he held the esteemed position of director of the Zurich Music Academy.
Composer of Vocal Works
Lafitte's compositions primarily comprised vocal music, with a particular affinity for setting texts in the Rhaeto-Romance language. He became a notable advocate for the language and its preservation.
