Harry Dean Stanton was an American actor, known for his roles in television and film. He was born on July 14, 1926, in Irvine, Kentucky, United States. His parents, a hairdresser and a farmer, did not live harmoniously and even separated when Stanton was in high school. However, they eventually reconciled and continued to live together. Stanton grew up with two biological brothers and one step-brother.

Stanton attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he studied journalism and radio broadcasting. During World War II, he served in the military and displayed heroic acts multiple times. After the war, Stanton began actively appearing in films, including "Escape from New York," "The Godfather Part II," and "The Green Mile," among others. Throughout his career, Stanton captured the attention not only of film experts and numerous fans but also of critical journalists. There were various opinions about him, ranging from his inability to reach a higher level of professionalism and therefore only playing insignificant roles, to his actual potential for great creative achievements.
