Early Life and Career

Arunwa Bigson Babainga began his football journey at the tender age of 7, joining the Shooting Stars Academy in Nigeria. At 13, his talent was recognized by scouts from Ajax in Amsterdam. Joining the club's youth team, he scored an impressive 15 goals in 30 matches.

Barcelona Connection

Babainga's stay in Amsterdam was brief. His skills caught the attention of scouts from Barcelona, leading him to one of Europe's most prestigious youth academies. At just 15 years and 9 months old, he made his unofficial debut for the Barcelona first team in a friendly against AGOVV Apeldoorn.

Loan Spells and Contract Termination

In 2002, Babainga was sent on loan to Segunda Division club Terrassa, where he played 38 matches and scored 5 goals. He later spent time on loan at Cadiz before terminating his long-term contract with Barcelona in 2004.

European and International Stints

Seeking a new club, Babainga found himself in Ukraine with Metalurh Donetsk. Despite scoring goals against Volyn and Metallist, his playing time was limited. In 2005, he joined Olympiakos on a free transfer, experiencing Champions League action against Udinese, Valencia, and Lyon.

Later Career

After a stint at Cypriot club Apollon Limassol, Babainga signed with Russian side Kuban in 2009. He joined German club Mainz 05 in 2010 on a three-year contract. Babainga made his Nigeria national team debut in 2003.

Family and Personal Life

Arunwa Babainga has a large family of 10 brothers, including himself. Two of his siblings, Tijani and Ibrahim, are also professional footballers.
