Early Life and Playing Career

Valeri Bidzhiev was born in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkarian ASSR, Soviet Union, on October 8, 1964. He began his football career in 1983 with his hometown club FC Spartak Nalchik. After three seasons, he moved to FC SKA Rostov-on-Don, where he played in the top-tier Soviet league for three years.

In 1988, Bidzhiev joined CSKA Moscow. A year later, he moved to FC Lokomotiv Moscow, where he spent the next decade with a brief spell in Israel. With Lokomotiv, he won the Russian Cup twice (1995/96 and 1996/97) and was a runner-up in the Russian Premier League (1995).

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Bidzhiev transitioned into coaching. From 2000 to 2006, he served as sporting director of FC Lokomotiv Moscow. He later held similar roles at FC Amkar Perm and FC Anzhi Makhachkala.

In 2014, Bidzhiev was appointed head coach of FC Spartak Nalchik, his former club as a player. Under his leadership, Nalchik placed 10th in the Russian Football National League (FNL). However, the club later faced financial difficulties and was relegated to the third-tier Russian Professional Football League (PFL).

Return to Spartak Nalchik

In 2021, Bidzhiev returned to FC Spartak Nalchik as head coach. He led the team to win the PFL Southern Zone title in the 2015/16 season, earning promotion back to the FNL. However, Nalchik was again relegated to the PFL after the 2016/17 season.

Bidzhiev left Nalchik in 2017 and spent time as head coach of FC Avangard Kursk. In 2021, he returned to Nalchik for a second stint as coach, where he remains to this day.

Education and Off-Field Endeavors

Bidzhiev earned a degree in economics from Kabardino-Balkarian State University. He also worked at the Russian Federation's Accounts Chamber from 1998 to 2000.
