Biography of Hashmat Ghani Ahmadzai
Hashmat Ghani Ahmadzai was born on October 29, 1960, in Logar, Afghanistan. He comes from the influential Ahmadzai tribe, an ethnic Pashtun group. His grandfather played a significant role in helping his father, King Zahir Shah, come to power in the early 20th century. During the monarchy, Hashmat's father served as a minister, holding the position of Minister of Transport.

After the monarchy was overthrown in 1973, Hashmat and his family joined the royalists and the exiled king, who chose to remain in Italy instead of attempting to regain the throne. This group of like-minded individuals became known as the Roman Group. Although not officially a political party, the group thrived as a political organization.
Hashmat pursued his education in Afghanistan, France, and the United States, earning a master's degree in international trade and marketing. He is currently actively involved in business in Afghanistan.
As the leader of the Big Council of the Kochi (or Kuchai), an independent ethnic group in Afghanistan, Hashmat represents the interests of this influential and wealthy group. According to the constitution, the Kochi enjoy a special status in their homeland, which includes ownership of land and a successful transportation company. As the head of the Kochi council, which represents the interests of numerous nomadic peoples, Hashmat interacts with important Afghan politicians, including President Hamid Karzai.
Hashmat has voiced his ideas and concerns regarding improving the quality of life for the poorest nomads in Afghanistan. He has advocated for the creation of a special department within the Karzai administration dedicated to addressing the needs of nomadic communities. According to Hashmat's vision, this department would act as a mediator in land disputes, fostering trust between the Kochi and the northern ethnic groups.
Hashmat is married and has two sons and one daughter. His older brother, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, currently serves as the Minister of Finance in Afghanistan.
