Biography of Hein Schreder

Hein Schreder, a Dutch economist and entrepreneur, is widely recognized as one of the most prominent experts in economics and business worldwide. He is the author of the book 'Economic Approaches to Organizations', which has undergone five reprints and has been translated into six languages. It is unlikely to lose its relevance in the future.

Early Life and Education

Hein Schreder was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. He pursued his education at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he completed his undergraduate studies. He continued his academic journey at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, earning his doctoral degree in 1981 for his dissertation on corporate social responsibility.

Career and Achievements

Schreder began his professional research career in business at the Netherlands Economic Institute in 1975. From 1976 to 1981, he held the position of Head of Research in Entrepreneurial Economics at the Economic-Social Institute of the Free University of Amsterdam. He later served as the director of the same organization from 1981 to 1984.

In pursuit of further academic opportunities, Schreder spent a year at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he became one of the first professors in the newly established Economics Department at the University of Maastricht.

In 1991, Schreder temporarily left the academic world to venture into the corporate sector. He joined the 'Polymers' division of the company 'Royal DSM' and quickly rose through the ranks. In 1994, he became the Deputy Director of Corporate Planning and Development at 'DSM', and in 1996, he assumed the directorship.

Throughout his nearly 15-year tenure as a leading corporate strategist at 'DSM', Schreder earned the nickname "architect of the new DSM." He also held memberships with the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. Additionally, he served as a visiting professor at the China Europe International Business School.

Currently, Schreder holds the position of Director at Vlerick Business School. Over the years, he has published seven books and numerous articles on various topics related to entrepreneurship and economics. His most renowned work is the book 'Economic Approaches to Organizations', first published in 1991.
