Murder of Vigen Abramyants

Vigen Abramyants, an Armenian teenager, was tragically killed in Moscow by Russian nationalists in 2008. The initial reports claimed that the crime was racially motivated by skinheads.

Confession and Withdrawal

However, the investigation soon arrested 16-year-old Denis Kulagin, a student at Moscow's school, who confessed to the murder. According to his testimony, the altercation occurred over a girl named Zhanna, whom Vigen allegedly insulted.

Denis later retracted his confession, leading to accusations by his mother, Olga Kulagina, and Zhanna herself. They claimed that Denis and Zhanna had witnessed skinheads attacking Vigen and were falsely accused.

Police Accusations

The police strongly refuted this theory, stating that there were no other injuries reported besides Vigen's. They dismissed the claims as "complete nonsense" and insisted that any mention of skinheads was fabrication.

Zhanna's Account

Zhanna's mother, Neferova, alleged that her daughter witnessed the attack. According to Zhanna's account, a group of men surrounded them and a man with a shaved head, stubble, and a knife targeted Vigen. Denis intervened, pushing Zhanna away and telling her to run. Zhanna claimed to have seen the knife in the attacker's hand but did not witness the stabbing itself.

Investigations and Aftermath

The investigation remains open with conflicting accounts and accusations. The true circumstances of Vigen Abramyants' death have never been fully resolved, leaving his family and the Armenian community seeking justice.
